Via email and comments I receive a lot of interesting and encouraging feedback from readers. Sometimes folks share a similar experience they had, share their future liveaboard or cruising plans, turn me on to other interesting blogs, or share some words of encouragement or empathy.

Since I never ask for advice in my posts, I'm confused why I received so much. (I guess some readers think I'm an idiot.) Unfortunately, there are folks out there that feel the need to tell others how they should have tackled a problem or how they should live their life. When I want or need advice, I simply ask folks I trust, consider their advice, and create a solution that works for me. I just don't feel the need to publish comments that tell me what to do or what I should have done; it's my journey, and I don't need a tour guide.

I find that rather than giving someone advice, it is more helpful and better received to provide others information. To say, "Hey, I don't know if this will work for your situation, but I did XYZ and it worked for me [or didn't]," provides someone information that they can consider, but does not presume they need to be told what to do or how to do it.

Perhaps I'll change the notation above the comment box to indicate that comments truly are welcome, but request that folks recognize that I'm a smart, resourceful girl who is tackling her challenges in her own way.Suzyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05058819754400979074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2240600284836805056.post-90694424173650897662013-05-29T10:12:56.285-04:002013-05-29T10:12:56.285-04:00If unsolicited advice is unwelcome, I'm confus...If unsolicited advice is unwelcome, I'm confused as to why you invite folks to post a comment?

TropicCat in Melbourne, FLAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05047501672161443671noreply@blogger.com
